Chanukah 2022!

The Jewish Community of Cyprus also hosted an open event for the public to enjoy on Wednesday 21st December at 7pm, Finikoudes Sea front stage, in Larnaca. The shows main feature was the lighting of the biggest Menorah in Cyprus and included a traditional Chanukah buffet, donuts, a UV light show and a fire show.




A huge Thank you to the European Jewish Association and to Rabbi Menachem Margolin, for ensuring that every Jew in Cyprus receive a Menorah candle lighting kit for Chanukah.




The Mayor of Larnaca expressed his heartfelt wishes towards the Jewish Community of Cyprus, during the evening’s events at theatre Skala Monday night.


The Jewish community of Cyprus celebrated Chanukah with selected guests, who enjoyed the traditional music of Shimon Sibony, a powerhouse singer, who is known for his combined art of opera with Jewish singing and an element of Spanish flamenco.



The Chief Rabbi of Cyprus, Rabbi Arie Zeev Raskin led the lighting ceremony of the Chanukah Menorah, which was on its second candle that night. He was accompanied by two of his daughters on the piano and violin.


Representing the Cypriot government was the Minister of Health, Mr. Michalis Hadjipantela. Many ambassadors joined the event, as well as members of Parliament, the chief of Police, Mr Papatheodorou who each were honoured at the event.


The Ambassador of Israel, Mr. Oren Anolik, addressed the crowd to give his Chanukah wishes to all. As well as the US Ambassador, Ms. Judith Garber who gave a beautiful address about unity.


Chanukah is a time of gathering, dedication, and remembrance. It is a time to celebrate the victory of light over darkness and the survival and resilience of the Jewish people amidst great adversity. This message is closely aligned with the story of the people of Cyprus, who through great struggle have persevered and flourished.
