Cyprus-Israel ties are stronger than ever with, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen,
who arrived on the island Thursday ahead of trilateral talks between Cyprus, Israel
and Greece. Minister Cohen said, “Cyprus was a safe place for Israelis”.
As part of the diplomatic visit that took place in Cyprus, the Chief Rabbi of
Cyprus, Rabbi Arie Zeev Raskin, met with the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Mr. Eli Cohen, in honour of the upcoming holiday of Passover.
Rabbi Raskin spoke to the minister about the Jewish Community of Cyprus, and
the needs of the community at this time, which today numbers over a thousand
families.
The rabbi and Minister also mentioned that Sunday will be the 121st birthday of
the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who made sure that every Jew received a matza reserved
for Passover wherever he was.
In the spirit of this programme started by the Rebbe, Rabbi Raskin also presented
the Minister with a holiday kit with a “Shmurah matzah' as part of the distribution
of the Central Rabbinical centre of Europe, which distributes over 120-thousand
matzah kits to Jews across Europe.
Passover (Pascha) celebrates the deliverance of the Jewish people from slavery in
Egypt. One of the major “Mitzvot” - (A mitzvot is like doing a good, it originates
from the bible, G-d commanded to do specific good deeds).
